A Day of Good Intentions and Bad Stomach Bugs

Happy 4th of July... I shouldn't be at home writing this post, I should be packing up our car heading off to the park for a dinner picnic, tons of outdoor games with friends, and fireworks, BUT today has not gone according to plan.

We thought it would be fun to go to the park early in the morning for a breakfast picnic and to feed the ducks. Breakfast was simple yet delicious: Cinnamon Rolls, Banana Bread, and Milk.

In the middle of breakfast Anna tells us she has to pee. Then it hits me, she never used the bathroom when she woke up this morning. So this must be an urgent kind of pee. The park we are at has NO BATHROOMS!! So Thayne drives her to the nearest gas station and the rest of us play at the park for a while.. We'll call this 'Strike 1...'

Thayne and Anna return and we decide it would fun to let the kids play for a while on the playground. Thanye shows the kids how to make the merry-go-round go fast or slow by just standing in a different position. Now I thought the merry-go-round after breakfast was a bad idea, but the kids were fine and so off we went to feed the ducks...

There were LOTS of ducks, so we thought this would be easy... Throw the bread, watch them eat, and be done...

WRONG!! - - We'l call this 'Strike 2.' While we must have tried to feed at least 30 ducks, NONE of them wanted the bread!! What?? I thought because it was early they would be hungry, but apparently NOT...

So here we are with lots of bread and no one wants it. We seriously walk all the way around the pond (it's a pretty good sized pond) and can't find any hungry ducks...

It's kinda hard to tell in this picture, but there are like 10 ducks lined up on the rocky border. When we throw the bread, the ducks get out of the way and/or get into the water... So sad. Well when we are almost back to the beginning, we see some turtles and start throwing our bread at them. A couple turtles took a bite. Then we moved back by the playground and FINALLY found some ducks on and near the playground that wanted our bread!! Hooray. Who knew it'd be so hard??

Then we head off to WalMart to buy some ice for our coolers, we get distracted at all the fun toys and games and just have fun window shopping. When we finally get home, it's probably within a half hour of getting home, Thayne had started making empanadas for our dinner and Evelyn came and found me and told me she had thrown up :(  Strike 3?

Afraid that this might not be a one time thing, we called our friends and gave them a heads up that we may not be going to the park after all... A couple hours later Samuel tells Dad that his tummy doesn't feel good. So we rush him off to the bathroom... About 15 minutes later, he threw up.  :( Strike 4?

Awe. My poor sick kids!! We are thinking it may have been something we ate? (I am hoping not because we all ate the same stuff!!!) Hyrum is so bummed that we aren't going to the park or having our dinner picnic. Sorry little man!  Anna is sleeping right now. We told her when she woke up that we would be going to the park... Oh the difference a couple of hours makes!! Her little heart will be broken!

Needless to say, today has not gone as we thought it would, we will have to take it easy, but at least we will be chillin' in our nice cool home. We figure we will watch the fireworks show on TV tonight so the kids will at least get to see fireworks. Maybe we will have a picnic in our family room! It's all about improvising right? Who wants some lemonade?!
